Ok, I FINALLY updated the site....

If you go to the About me section, you'll see that there was a ASS TON of stuff that has happened since July... and even then, that doesn't count my personal life.

Basically... I've changed EVERYTHING.  No more insurance, just Art.

(breathe Jason... breathe...)

Yea, it was, and still is, a risky move, but a needed one.

I'll go more into detail about it, but some highlights....

Became President of Austin Working Artists and had a fantastic, HUGE show for EAST, the East Austin Studio tour... My first year participating.

Moved in with my sister to help her out.

My Mercury died tragically.... now I've got a Chevy Cobalt.

I went to my first wizard world... and by went, I mean had a table in Artists alley.  I could write for days on the experience.  I'm SO doing more cons in 2014....

I am now a resident artist with the Romani Gallery in Austin.... yea, very cool!

I founded a new artists group in Austin called Austin Artists Network.

Yea, no longer President of Austin Working Artists....

Doing more shows and trying to push myself more.  I'm trying more jury and curated shows.

Still rocking the beard.

Still Single.

Ok, so not everything changed.

Got a PS3 and not sure if I regret it yet..... Sister keeps on watching Lost on Netflix on it.

OK, so 2014, more updates, stranger events and a Nude art show in February!

A New Show

My first show was... Interesting. I started doing art again July 1st, 2012 and signed up with my friend Robin, who owns Art Connectors that same month. I showed her some early stuff, some ideas I was playing with, and she liked them and wanted me to be in a show that was going up at the begining of November. In Four months....Ok, so there might have been a little bit of panic. I worked. I produced in that four months the Venkman, Falling, Audrey and Trooper series, as well as some photography. Over 50 pieces, but most were not hang ready. I had them matted, bagged and stuck on the walls. It really was bad. I learned the importance of hang ready. It really makes your stuff look polished, ready. Hang ready, or ready to hang, either way, just means the piece is matted and framed, or has wire and is ready to put on a wall. It's ready. It has nothing to do with making art, just presenting it.You know, most houses that are dressed, ie have furniture in them and looked lived in sell faster than those that are empty. Same thing with framing. People have to see the art in a frame before they buy. If they are smart, they'll reframe it, but they have to see it framed first. I've been getting my stuff ready to hang for the show going up on the 29th. Some is matted and framed, others are wired up and ready to go. It looks professional. At the last show at the Met, there was a artist that did not have ready to hang art, but couldn't understand why people didn't want to buy. Thats part of the diffrence. If you want it to look professional, it's got to be ready to hang, ready to present. It's also a pain in the ass.

So, um, did I mention I have a few other… aI don’t know if skills is the right word for it, but maybe… abilities?

I’m a Swiss army knife of awesomeness…. Really.

So, on May 4th I did my first wedding.

Yea, really, I’m just throwing it out there.

It was on Star Wars day…

May the 4th be with you….

Ok, here’s some pics from it.
In case you are wondering, I’m the short fat one in the back, in a suit, outdoors at a crawfish boil.

My friends Diane and Alvin decided that they wanted to renew their vows at their annual crawfish boil.  I talked about it here and they asked me to perform the ceremony.

Um, there was some drinking involved.

I am a reverend, through the Universal Life church. Yea, these guys

So, I'm legit... or as legit as I ever get.

I’m just sayin… if ya need to get married…

I’ll help ya out.

The first Myth

6/5/2013

The first myth we ever told was “There is a reason behind everything.”

This just came to me earlier tonight.  Like a lot of these thoughts, first comes the phrase, then the reasoning behind it.

In fact, it’s that word, “reason” that makes it a myth.  There is a cause for each action, a trigger.  Likewise, a action, once triggered, can potentially trigger others.

It’s the concept, the substitution of the word Reason for Cause that changes it.  It implies a intelligent design, a direction to the event.  No longer are we acknowledging that there was a prior event, we are implying direction, purpose, a invisible hand guiding it.  We are implying reason, rational directed thought.

It’s not a great leap to call that reason God.

Myth’s are the lies we tell ourselves, but in the telling, we make them true.  We force, we create our world around us, giving birth to our myths.  We create God, or at least our perception of it, simply by changing a word “cause” to “reason”.  By framing an event with logic, we begin to organize random events into a pattern, bringing order to chance.  From that order of random events, we begin to sculpt reason, and master our universe with control.
